Research and Development
We’re really passionate about our bees and the amazing products they make, but it doesn’t stop there. Our Research and Development Programme has 2 distinct areas we focus on.
Firstly, there’s the bee keeping side of the business at the Rainbow Honey site in Tapawera. In order for us to remain successful and have healthy bees for future generations we spend a lot of time to developing new ways to look after our bees’ health.
When the Varroa Bee Mite was first found in New Zealand in 2006 it decimated our bee stock and since then we’ve established a VSH (Varroa Sensitive Hygiene) Queen Breeding Programme at Rainbow Honey with the aim of breeding bees that are no longer affected by this mite. Secondly, we continue to research the health benefits associated with Bee Venom added to Manuka Honey and skincare. This takes place at our offices in Motupiko where the same people doing the Bee Venom research continue to work on brand new products to complement our existing product range.
